After nearly a decade in the making, The K-Seoul Sessions is officially released —a seven song Korean-American cross-cultural collaborative album that transcends borders, language barriers, and time zones. Spearheaded by Brooklyn-based music artist and producer Jake Tavill and Seoul-based singer-songwriter LoveSong, the album is an ambitious fusion of modern soul, jazz, and R&B sensibilities shaped through years of global collaboration.

What began as a serendipitous meeting in Nashville during the 2017 Summer NAMM conference between Tavill and members of Seoul’s Pondsound Studios has grown into a deeply human project about connection and shared artistry. The K-Seoul Sessions reflects the rising underground soul and jazz scene in South Korea—an often-overlooked movement quietly influencing and shaping the future of global music.

“This project defies what we think are limits—geographical, cultural, even logistical,” says Tavill, who founded Indigo Soul NYC, the creative studio behind the project. “It’s not just a record. It’s a conversation between artists, cities, and cultures that grew over time into something completely new.”

Inspired by American soul and jazz records from the Korean War era (1950–1953), Tavill used archival titles and lyrics from that time to ignite co-writing sessions with LoveSong. The result is a musical dialogue between two histories, told through songs that echo shared themes of love, loss, identity, and resilience.

The recording process itself was a masterclass in modern remote collaboration. While Korean musicians tracked drums and instrumentation in Gangnam, Tavill simultaneously recorded in an eclectic mix of studios across New York and New Jersey—from the NYU Clive Davis Institute and Shelter Island Sound to his Saint Marks apartment and Shorefire Studios. Featured collaborators include acclaimed pianist Isaiah J. Thompson, rapper Kuf Knotz, and a rotating lineup of Korean and American musicians.

The final touches were added in-person, when Tavill visited South Korea for the first time in 2019 to complete the vocal sessions with LoveSong at Pondsound Studios. The trip also led to a key meeting with renowned K-drama composer Nam Hye Seung, who later enlisted Tavill to work on hit series such as It’s Okay Not To Be Okay and A Piece of Your Mind.

In tandem with the music, cover artwork was designed by Korean visual artist Joeun Jeong (aka LilJane), and a documentary chronicling the making of The K-Seoul Sessions is being released, co-produced by Zachary Grullon (cinematographer), Yishen Zhou (producer), Jeeyoon Lim (producer), Casey O’Connell (assistant producer), and Yunhi Kim (director/editor) . The film offers a behind-the-scenes look into the creative process, cultural exchange, and emotional challenges of making art across continents.

“After all these years, this project feels more relevant than ever,” says Tavill. “In a world that’s increasingly connected, we need music that helps us understand each other—not just coexist. The K-Seoul Sessions is proof that when we let go of control and embrace collaboration, we create something truly original.”

Adds LoveSong: “It’s not just about songs—it’s about identity, trust, and the beauty found in the space between cultures. I carry both Korea and the U.S. in my heart, and this album helped me bring that duality into one voice.”

The K-Seoul Sessions was released on November 7th, 2025 and the documentary will be released in the near future.
